This is the rare smaller tin tag of the American Navy but THE BACKING IS STILL THERE which makes these amazing as most are rubbed off or tarnished!!!
Advertising got bigger as time went on so these are likely older than the larger ones especially with the artwork and the way it was made.

Antique American Navy Tin Tobacco Tag 1870s-1910s
After the Civil War demand for South tobacco soared. Since the competition was so tight tobacco companies issued these tags from 1870 to 1920 to identify themselves. This also helped prevent people from buying someone else inferior product as it made it harder for store owners to "refill" the tobacco with an inferior product.
This is an antique item and a bargain for any collector!
