Historical note: RUSSIA-LONDON. 5% Debenture for £20. red, black. Formed in 1911 to acquire 638 acres of land on Vasilievski Island, St. Petersburg, and develop it for housing. All the shares were issued to the vendors. £700,000 of these debentures were issued, half to finance the development and half for the vendors. The land was, of course, confiscated after the 1917 revolution. The company was later defunct. Superb view of the city of St. Petersburg. Printed by Waterlow. 10 September 1912
Colonel Sir Herbert Jekyll (1846 - 1932), served in the Royal Engineers in the Ashanti War 0f 1876. Joined the Colonial Office as private secretary to Lord Carnarvon, following him in the same capacity in the War Office. Later joined the board of several large companies. His sister was the famous gardener and artist Gertrude Jekyll. The Honourable Evelyn Hubbard (1852 – 1934), businessman and Conservative politician. Joined the family business of Russian merchants in 1875. Later became the last governor of the Russia Company and a director of the Bank of England.
